My Education

Education

School has been the most challenging part of my life, but it’s also where I’ve grown the most. Due to prenatal exposure to drugs and alcohol, I faced significant learning disabilities from an early age. I was diagnosed with dysgraphia, a condition that impairs handwriting and the coordination between brain and hands, and attention deficit disorder (ADD), which made focusing a constant struggle.

In my early school years, learning felt like an uphill battle. Grasping and retaining information was tough, and writing down even simple notes was a slow, frustrating process. Athletics were no easier—catching a baseball or football, or swinging a bat to hit a pitch, often felt impossible due to my hand-eye coordination challenges.

Yet, with relentless hard work, the guidance of dedicated teachers and coaches, and unwavering support from my parents, I began to turn things around. An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) played a crucial role, aligning my school and family to ensure I received the tailored support I needed. Over time, I not only strengthened my academic skills but also overcame my coordination struggles, finding success on the Football Field and in Track.

Today, I’m proud to say I’ve largely overcome my disabilities. My grades have soared, and I’m on track to finish my junior year with a 3.0 GPA, with my sights set on achieving a 3.25–3.50 GPA by senior year. My athletic abilities have also transformed, allowing me to compete with confidence and contribute to my teams. Throughout my journey, I’ve remained respectful, hardworking, and positive, building strong relationships with my teachers, coaches, and peers.

Though learning was once a daunting obstacle, it has shaped me into someone who never gives up. With determination and support, I’ve rewritten my story—and I’m just getting started.
